Each year, Career Services puts on a Career Fair for prospective students and employers. Normally, students will dress professionally and take their resumes to give to the employers. If students are lucky, employers will be conducting interviews. Typically, employers will just be at these fairs to promote their companies and tell students to submit applications online.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending my first official career fair. I have gone other years, but this is the first year that I went with intention to find a job. I was able to interview with an agricultural production company. This was my first ever professional interview. I feel pretty confident about the interview. Who really knows, though? Aren't all interviewers supposed to make you feel confident about an interview? I am supposed to hear from this company within 2 weeks. Either way, I will continue to explore my options.
As I am approaching graduation, a wave of uncertainty is coming over me. As an underclassmen, I always heard seniors complaining about how they did not know what they were going to do with their lives. I can honestly say that I now know what they were talking about. Big life choices are just around the corner. Do I stay in Las Cruces, take the GRE, find a job outside of New Mexico, or join the Peace Corps and return to school later on? Although I find myself worried sick about my upcoming decisions; I am also confident in the fact that I am a single college graduate willing to relocate, and really have no huge responsibilities. I am also debt free!

FREE ADVICE!
I am a fifth year senior majoring in Government and minoring in Global Political Economy. I am choosing to write my advice for incoming freshmen (i.e. all of the stuff I wish someone would have told me). I will be adding to my list but here are my first two pieces of adviceA few wise words from a Super-Senior:

-Although it may seem hard to believe when you are 1 in 65 people in a class, professors pay attention to who is actively participating in class

Constant Battle.
So the week has finally come to a close.....for me at least. I have one last class before I head down to Albuquerque to spend time with my family. I'm pretty excited since I my entire family hasn't been together all at once since last year. So we're gonna go to the state fair and celebrate my mom's 50th!
Anyway, yesterday was the premier show of the Barb n' Duard Radio Show on KRUX 91.5. And it was interesting. So our training wasn't exactly detailed, so we walked into the studio at 9:50pm (show started at 10) not having a clue how to work things. Let me tell you, the first 30 minutes of our show was absolute chaos! We were pressing all these buttons, switching mics over, dumping music because of accidental profanity. It was a mess! Then when we had to talk, I was so stressed, I don't think one word out of my mouth made sense.
But slowly things got progressivly better. We got the computer system figured out and we finally understood the sound board. Then we got rolling! The rest of the show was really fun! We got comfortable talking and choosing songs and things just fell into place.
I am glad the first day is over because we knew it wouldn't turn out so well. But we are getting some good publicity. In Albuquerque, Buck, Dex, and Baxter from 104.1 The Edge called my co-host and talked to her on air about our show and they even posted links on their website. So that was a big help! They also asked us to be guests on their show when we go back to Albuquerque! So this tiny little thought about a radio show has grown into this huge thing suddenly and it's really exciting!
Well enough of that. Since this is my last blog for the week, I kinda wanted to talk about some other stuff that's been going on this week. It's nothing specific of course, but this week has been something else. I actually think things happen for a reason, not even just the good things, but the really bad things too. Do you ever wonder why we suffer or feel bad about ourselves? Is it really the bad things that make us moral people and shape the person we are? Or do we have the sole control over the person we become, without outside influence... Are the mistakes we make in life what we call experience? It's something to think about at the very least. Life is rough for everyone, but we somehow we make it through. We may never understand why bad things happen to us, but we can always understand the choices we have to deal with them.
I hope you all enjoyed this (+) week! Go out and do something that make you happy. Don't worry about all the things you have to do the next week, just go out and enjoy the day!

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark
Well it's Tuesday people. Normally I would say there is only 3 more days left until the weekend, but I am fully enjoying this week, even if it kills me...
and it might....
Last night, my (unnamed) professor decided to post homework at 7pm and make it due by 11:59pm that same day. So I spent the remainder of my night sitting on the couch doing homework, listening to the radio, watching Jersey Shore (No Judgement) muted. Oh it was fun, let me tell you.
But today should be better! I'm going swimming after work, then back to my apartment with my friend Barb to make a playlist for tomorrow's radio show. I guess I should study for my 3 exams tomorrow too.....
So yesterday, my friends and I had some very interesting conversations. In short, we lost hope in society as a whole. I must say we had good reason to think this way. But instead of going any further into detail, I want to say that bad experiences should never allow you to judge others in the future. Yes, it is easy to think everyone acts the same and that life is against you, but it's not true. People are inherently good, but sometimes they choose not to be, and they have to tell themselves everyday that they are doing the right thing until they finally convince themselves they are. These are the people to avoid in life. You cannot be happy when your life is nothing more than shallow desires and a fake personality. I wish I could say that people do grow up eventually, but some people never do. They will continue to hurt others for their own selfish wants. But you have to be strong enough to stand up to these people, or simply shut them out of your life altogether because nothing positive can come from them. A real person will never act like nothing is wrong, but will apologize and have the selfless pride to say sorry.
So that wasn't short at all... but it had to be said.
I guess this is what college is all about.

Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays!
Aaaannndd we're back. It's another Monday morning here is Las Cruces, NM and I cannot be more tired. I guess drinking coffee at midnight isn't the best idea I've had thus far.(Which reminds me, I need coffee...) But you live and you learn.
So what happened to the weekend? It seems like it always gets away from me. But I did have fun. And I did sleep until 2pm yesterday..... it was nice :). And homework was not a problem. I think if I sit down with no distractions I can get everything done fairly quickly. But normally I'm one of those people that tries so hard to listen to my iPod or watch TV while studying, then I find myself 5 hours later with less then a paragraph written on my 10 pg paper... Dang. So I decided to give up on the belief that I can double task.
But anyway, I decided I really need to start the week off better. Even though sleep is a big part of that, I think attitude is more important. It's all about a positive attitude! And why not have a positive outlook on your week? You have to go through it anyway, sleep or no sleep, so you might as well be happy about it. If I learned anything from an old friend, that is it.
So this is me starting off the week with a positive outlook. For this week, things are gonna turn out right. Classes will NOT be difficult and I will receive the minimum amount of homework/tests/quizzes (I think I'm delusional from lack of sleep). But positive attitude, positive attitude.
Oh and something else. I start my radio show this week at KRUX 91.5 Las Cruces. So if you happen to be listening to that particular radio station on Wednesday from 10pm-12 midnight, you will hear some very entertaining people and bomb music!
Well I am done talking for the day (.....) and I better go "help" Donna at the front desk so I wish you all a very POSITIVE and NON-STRESSFUL week!

Hello everyone!
Today's been a stressful day but hey it's the middle of the week! I'm still trying to maintain that positive attitude that I said I would keep! lol (not as easy as I thought) but it's a work in process =) Got an Anatomy and Physiology exam tomorrow but I feel ready! The time management goal seems to be working out great, now I just hope I don’t over sleep through this exam as well, lol.

MONDAY!
Good Afternoon Aggies!
I know I know...ugh its Monday! =/ who can truly be excited on a Monday morning at 6:00 am right!
Well believe it or not, I somehow was! =) Rather than complaining and whining about how early I had to wake up and how it’s Monday I decided to start the week off on the right foot.
See, last week didn’t go so well, after spending my ENTIRE Labor Day weekend at home studying I was as prepared as I could be for my "Tuesday" phonetics quiz...
Well, it turns out it was postponed until Thursday. So I think ok well at least I'm prepared already so no stress!...
Thursday comes around...and guess what?? I miss my 7:30 phonetics class along with my quiz! =( I wake up freaked out! Hit the shower and first thing I did was run to my professor's office. I was honest, I let her know what happened and she understood...but, class policy: NO MAKE UP QUIZZES...
Blam! (As Elaina says) There went my hard working Labor Day weekend! But hey, at least I know the material by heart for the mid-term ;)
Lesson Learned; don’t study too hard over the weekend! Lol
Goal for the week: Stay positive and practice better time management.

Pride
Dear Friends,
As I reflect on the week that has just passed I think about all that has happened and what lies ahead. Last night as a I watched the football game introductions I saw people from so many different backgrounds all gathered in one stadium to root on their teams, and then in a moment the stadium went quiet and the United States Flag was posted…As the anthem sang there were people shown singing along or quiet in awe for their country’s colors. So what am I getting at you may ask?... Pride. Everyone should have pride in something whether it’s in what you do, who you are, or where you come from. Pride seems to comes out the most in a country when catastrophic events take place. In 1941, The Attack on Pearl Harbor took place and all Americans came together and showed their pride in their country because it was “The American” thing to do…The most recent event in which American pride has surfaced is September 11th, 2001, a day where everyone grew quiet and the only thing to do was to come together and be patriotic because it seemed as though everyone was under attack not just a building or two. Tomorrow is the 9th anniversary of the Twin Tower Attacks…No matter where you are take a moment and remember that day and how you might have felt. If you’re at the First Aggie Football Game of the season be sure to salute the military men and women, and when that National Anthem is played by The Pride of New Mexico stand and be proud to be an American…And also show pride in your school and football team, because it’s pride that makes all of us unique. So to end this week’s blogs I’ll leave you with this thought if you have nothing else to have pride in, be sure sure that you have pride in yourself because that is what will be the most important in the end. Here’s to you Aggie Nation, hope you all have a fantastic weekend and try to make it out to the tailgaiting and football game tomorrow. GO AGGIES!!!

Another Day, Another Play
Well campers it's another beautiful day here on campus, and my motivational topic for today...Brett Favre. I know, I know you all are probably just as sick of hearing about his hot and cold feet to come and play another season (and again, and again), but he does bring up a very good example of how to live life. Have you ever heard the quote “We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing”? ... Well in so many ways it proves to be true, for the reasons of if you have nothing driving you to move forward you end up at a standstill, just to watch life pass you by. The oldest Quarterback in the National Football League in my eyes is a smart man. He loves his job. He loves the game he gets to play every Sunday night, so why would he stop playing just because people think of him as being too old? He's young because of the game not to mention probably in better shape than any guy even half his age. So here's my point to you Aggies... Start making plays to apply to your life so it will keep you going through life. Find something you love to do whether it be professionally or independently, because you don't want to spend your life at a standstill wondering what's passing you by...........AND Don't forget to watch the Vikings vs. Saints Game TONIGHT!!!! :D

If The Boot Fits
From all walks of life we come together to this one place. Some of us think we know where we're going and others are taking the road as is comes. We may take different routes to get here to go to class and meet up with friends, but the truth is we all understand that we're all here to accomplish some sort of goal. As I slipped on my Justin Boots this morning I started thinking about the road ahead of me. I use to be so sure what I wanted to do and how I was going, but now at this point and time I’m taking life day by day. Much like choosing which shoes to put on in the morning, though many of us have different ideas about which shoes to wear (i.e. which would go great with that awesome new outfit you just got at the mall or which would be the most comfortable to go about with throughout the day) we all make those choices for the next steps we’re going to take that day. Each step you learn a new lesson and maybe find a new path to take. Some steps may be uncertain, but one thing is for sure as soon as you take those next steps you can guarantee you’re going farther in life no matter where you are. So the next time you walk down I-Mall or up the Horseshoe think about where the shoes you chose today will take you, because it should hopefully open your eyes to the awesome unknowns that you might walk upon tomorrow. :)

Those Long Last Summer Nights
There's a song by Rascal Flatts that came out during the Summer of 2009 called "Summer Nights"...And it makes me think about this Labor Day Weekend that just ended...The best times are those that you spend with friends doing those fun things like taking a tubing trip down the Rio or those spontaneous those trips to Elephant Butte. Taking those trips and doing those things are the little moments that make life easier and worth while. So it makes sense that Labor Day Weekend breaks up the monotony of the first few weeks of classes back at NMSU…It allows us as students to get that last taste of summer and make us start looking forward to those Fall evenings filled with football, state fairs, bonfires, and chilly starry nights. As one good season comes to an end another has yet to begin. So here’s to a great start to Fall 2010! Here’s to all the football, fairs and bonfires you can handle…don’t worry Summer will make it’s way back. However as for right now enjoy the little things that come with the season of Fall. ;)

Misty Mountain Hop
So the weekend is here...
The beautiful morning entices me to give into starting my day in a big way.It's 7:00 am and I have decided to have a big breakfast instead of just having my typical (mom unapproved) pop tarts & orange juice.
I'm not usually a McDonald's person but there is one nearby up on University Ave.Maybe about a 6 minute walk from my dorms. So I just fall out of bed and throw on an Aggie t-shirt, hat and running shorts...and I'm off
When I get outside, I am greeted by a misty mountain landscape.The rising sun is blanketed by clouds and a cool breeze sweeps through the campus. The morning is a beauty
4 minutes later. I find myself walking up to McDonald's. I walk in through the entrance and I am greeted by an Aggie decor. I guess this is the official McDonald's of the NMSU Aggies. I step up to the counter and scan the menu before choosing the "Deluxe breakfast with Hot Cakes and a small orange juice" (with proof of my student id I get a discount)
I take a seat at a booth and open today's paper ( I like to pick up the paper so I seem more mature lol)
I just sit and gaze at the sight of the campus
I think about the week and my plans for the labor day weekend
In a few hours I will be heading to Admissions to log in a few hours in my work-study. After that I will be packing up my stuff into my truck and heading down to my hometown of El Paso (which is about a 45 minute drive depending on traffic)
But all those events are yet to come
Right now, I am just chillaxin' and in the moment @ NMSU
The beautiful morning entices me to give into starting my day in a big way.It's 7:00 am and I have decided to have a big breakfast instead of just having my typical (mom unapproved) pop tarts & orange juice.
I'm not usually a McDonald's person but there is one nearby up on University Ave.Maybe about a 6 minute walk from my dorms. So I just fall out of bed and throw on an Aggie t-shirt, hat and running shorts...and I'm off

Thursday Night Football
I'm sitting in my 5 p.m. marketing class.I'm waiting for the time to strike 6:15 p.m.
Earlier today, I had stopped by my dorm in between classes to look up the time of the Dallas-Miami preseason football game (I'm from Texas so I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan btw).The listing said 6 p.m.
Basically some people would blow off the fact that this is just a preseason game but I like to look at this as practice. Practice for when the regular season starts and so on...So I drill so I can be prepared for the real thing.
I time the distance from my class to my dorm and before that check my nearby venue options (Buffalo Wild Wings, Hooters, Farley's). I decide that since this is a pre-season game I would rather enjoy it at the dorm rather than spend money somewhere else (but I've got my options open).
So my class runs overtime. I get out at 6:25 p.m....and I race out of the class
I'm thinkin' that it's time to pull out the big guns and when I get to Rhodes Garett Hamiel (upper classmen dorms) I call dibs on the big screen tv in the grande lobby. I flip on the tv to FOX and run to my dorm to change into my colors. Blue & Grey baby!!!
I'm watching the game from the comfort of the couches surrounding the huge flatscreen.I'm rootin' for my man Romo & third string quarterback McGee! (I'm not alone I've met a few new faces who watch da game with me)
I'm thinkin' as I watch the game I should've gotten some wings & some pizza lol also maybe I should start da Rhodes Garett Hamiel Dallas Cowboy fan club or maybe the Dallas Cowboy Fan Club of NMSU!!
Next time 4 sure I'm gona bring out da food lol
